There are 2 types of poverty - poverty of the body, and poverty of the mind.
We have to fight both.
Poverty of the body means a very poor standard of living where even basic needs cannot be met. There is problem in providing for water, food, health, sanitation, livelihoods, and/or education.
Gandhi said, "the world has enough to provide for everyone's need, but not everyone's greed."
It is the responsibility of the rich to ensure dignity of life to the poor. Because we are only trustees of our wealth, not owners. We will have to pay for the sins of not taking care of the poor. We can't escape.
Then, there is a 2nd type of poverty. Poverty of the mind. Here, the mind feels bankrupt without any passion to live, and engulfed with the dark clouds of depression, and anxiety. The practise of human values can clear these dark clouds and give a vision into the clear sky.
End Poverty !
Happy International Day for Eradication of Poverty (Oct 17) !
